How Atlas sounds
With two syllables, Atlas has a balanced, easy rhythm that is simple to say and to call across a room. Atlas ends on a breathy, hissing consonant, which gives it a light, trailing finish. Atlas strikes the ear quickly, with the bright, snappy edge that this scheme counts as fire. Atlas is on the way up in U.S. birth records, a name that is gaining ground. Most people named Atlas in U.S. birth records are boys.
The Saju view
Counted by its first sound, Atlas is an earth name, since that sound is made with an open throat and a soft breath. The sound of Atlas belongs to fire, the element of warmth and visibility. A chart short on fire is the one that gains most from such a name. Because fire feeds earth in the cycle of generation, Atlas can also help a chart that is short on earth, though less directly. A chart that already holds plenty of fire is better served by another name, since Atlas would add to it.

The astrology view
To the ear Atlas sounds fire, the element of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Those signs hear a familiar voice in it, and Gemini, Libra and Aquarius find it a friendly partner. Atlas is a less natural fit for earth and water signs, whose elements differ from its fire sound.
