How Miriam sounds
A three-syllable name, Miriam often sounds a little more formal and lends itself to a short nickname. With a nasal consonant at the end, Miriam has a rounded, gentle finish. Say Miriam out loud and it glides from one syllable to the next, which is how the scheme recognizes a water sound. The popularity of Miriam in U.S. birth records has stayed even, so it will not date quickly. U.S. birth records list Miriam overwhelmingly for girls.
The Saju view
The opening of Miriam falls in the water group of the sound-element table, because it is a lip sound. If your Four Pillars show little water, Miriam is worth a closer look: its water sound is the kind the tradition recommends for a shortage. Miriam supports wood from behind: its water sound is the traditional source of that element. A chart that already holds plenty of water is better served by another name, since Miriam would add to it.

The astrology view
Miriam ranks highest in charts led by water, which means the signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Charts led by Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn come next. Miriam is a less natural fit for fire and air signs, whose elements differ from its water sound.
